Citigroup, the New York City-based financial giant that is building a 1,600-employee credit card center in Louisville, is reportedly shuttering a credit-card operation in Des Moines, Iowa.

According to reports, Citigroup plans to lay off about 450 workers in the Des Moines area when it closes a customer-service center next year. The closure is related to Citigroup's consolidation of operations that were acquired last year as part of Citigroup's $32 billion purchase of Sears' credit card portfolio.

Citigroup has said it will eliminate duplicate operations and is consolidating some of the call-center operations at large call centers.

In March, the company said it would build a 1,600-employee, 170,000-square-foot call center in Louisville. The company plans a similar facility in Guilford County, N.C.

The company was offered about $20 million in state tax incentives from both Kentucky and North Carolina.
